IP CCTV

How does it work?

IP CCTV works by sending a digital signal over a network. Unlike traditional CCTV systems, you can plug the cameras into the network locally and store video recordings off-site. This saves time and money versus a traditional CCTV system where each camera is individually cabled back to the central DVR location.

• Superior image quality: IP cameras are capable of producing High Definition video at multi-megapixel resolution. A 1.3MP camera has 3 times the resolution of a high end D1 Analogue camera.
• Ease of installation: Only 1 cable is required to supply power and send data (Power over Ethernet) as opposed to multiple cables on an analogue system. This offers significant savings on installation costs as well as minimising disruption.
• Upgrade at your own pace: You can bring your legacy CCTV systems to the latest standards incrementally if initial costs are of concern. Hybrid recording units allow you to replace one camera at a time, at a pace you can afford. Analogue encoders allow your existing network to be integrated into a modern IP based platform.

Analogue and HD-SDI CCTV

These are the traditional systems you still often see in shops, offices and towns all over the UK. HD-SDI technology is essentially an encoded analogue camera, enabling megapixel images to be sent over traditional coax cable networks. Whilst IP CCTV is establishing itself as an excellent CCTV offering, the traditional analogue system still has useful applications and benefits.

• Cost-effective technology: Traditional analogue systems are very cost-effective, for those looking to build an effective security system on a budget. As well as this, commissioning an analogue system is often significantly less time consuming than the complex IP Video Management System setup.
• Can cover longer distances: As the data and information is less complex than that of an IP system, cameras can be several kilometres apart as opposed to a hundred metres.

What are the options?

Access Control has two main functions, securing a door or access point and recording movement. What you want to achieve with your system will determine which solutions is right for your requirements.

Networked Access Control Systems

• These systems can be anywhere from 2 to 20,000 doors, with the level of software typically determining how many doors the system will support
• Ideal for enhancing your businesses operational procedures. Networked systems provide a record of movement and whereabouts of staff and customers, as well as controlling traffic flow.
• Integration with other security systems offers a genuine return on investment. For example, this could mean linking your access system with the fire system so that in the event of an emergency, doors can fail safe or fail secure where necessary.
• Integration with HR, payroll or time & attendance systems also offers a genuine return on investment. Your access control card that logs you in in the morning can also act as a payroll tool and time & attendance indicator.
• Intuitive Access Control software means you can manage your buildings security from a central software platform. This means you can decide who goes where, at what time and with whom. Standalone Access Control Systems

• These systems will secure a single door; typically the controller will be built into the reader. Options vary from keypad to MIFARE card, or a combination of the two.
• This is the ideal solution if you are simply looking to secure a single door or a small number of doors across a large site. As there is no network between them, or central interface, installation costs are reduced.
• These systems are programmed locally to the reader, meaning if you have two or three on site, the details must be entered multiple times. There is also no integration with other systems, such as fail safe in the event of a fire.
